Abia State Government Commissions Fully Installed Material Testing Laboratory in Umuahia to Guarantee Quality Infrastructure Projects
In a major step toward strengthening infrastructure delivery and ensuring that all engineering and building projects in the state meet world-class standards, the Abia State Government (ABSG) has completed and installed its long-awaited Material Testing Laboratory in Umuahia.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Sir Okey Kanu, while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu recalled that a few months ago, the administration had disclosed its intention to establish the facility as part of its vision to enforce quality assurance in construction projects across the state.
“We are happy to announce that, that laboratory is fully installed and is up and running now,” he stated.
The Commissioner further outlined the wide range of services the facility can deliver, which include:
Concrete Testing
Soil Testing
Aggregate Testing
Asphalt Flexible Pavement Testing
Steel Reinforcement Testing
Non-Destructive Testing
Field Testing, among several others.
He emphasized that the installation of the laboratory represents a strategic move by the government to ensure that all ongoing and future projects in Abia adhere strictly to globally recognized engineering standards.
“The installation of this lab will ensure very high quality of engineering and building projects in the state,” Prince Kanu affirmed.
The commissioning of the Material Testing Laboratory marks another milestone in Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to laying a strong foundation for sustainable development in Abia, guaranteeing that public resources are invested only in durable,
high-quality infrastructure.
