Abia State to Host International Leaders’ Summit on Science, Technology, and Leather Innovation as Soccer Fest Thrills 17 LGAs
The Abia State Government has announced plans to host the International Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to hold between September 22nd and 25th, 2025. The event, which will be spearheaded by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, is designed to foster stronger collaboration between the state’s science and technology sector and entrepreneurs in the leather subsector.
Commissioner for Information, Prince Sir Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday while briefing the press at Government House, Umuahia, after this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
According to the commissioner, the summit will create a platform for entrepreneurs and innovators to harness technology in advancing the leather industry, particularly in refining production processes, enhancing product quality, and meeting global standards for exports. He stressed that the initiative aligns with the administration’s broader vision of driving industrial growth through technology and positioning Abia as a hub for innovation-driven business.
Prince Kanu also highlighted that the Abia Soccer Fest competition, which is currently ongoing across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, remains another flagship initiative geared towards grassroots talent development, youth engagement, and community cohesion.
The dual efforts, he explained, reflect the Otti-led administration’s multi-sectoral strategy to promote sports, innovation, and entrepreneurship, thereby accelerating economic growth and creating opportunities for Abians both locally and g
lobally.
