Abia Government Moves to Revitalise Abia Hotel Limited, Umuahia, as Commissioner Kanu Reveals Advanced Recovery Process

The Abia State Government has announced that plans to revitalise the moribund Abia Hotel Limited, Umuahia, have reached an advanced stage. This, the government said, is in line with its broader agenda of reviving dormant state-owned enterprises and ensuring that public assets are not left to waste.

The disclosure was made on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing at the Government House, Umuahia, where he spoke on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu explained that the recovery of the once-thriving hospitality facility is part of the administration’s deliberate effort to reposition Abia’s economic infrastructure and restore value to assets that have been abandoned for years.

“The recovery process of that facility has reached an advanced stage, and further details about that process will be unfolded in due course to the press,” he assured.

Reiterating the commitment of Governor Otti’s administration to prudent asset management, Kanu stressed that the era of government property being abandoned or misappropriated is over.

“It is worthy to note that under the watch of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, no government asset will be allowed to waste or be misappropriated by government officials, as was the case in the past,” he stated firmly.

The revitalisation of Abia Hotel Limited, which once stood as a symbol of pride in the state’s hospitality sector, is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, and serve as a source of revenue generation for the state.

With the current administration’s drive to recover and reposition abandoned public assets, stakeholders believe that Abia is gradually building a strong foundation for sustainable ec onomic growth.
