The Abia State Government has announced that preparations for the commencement of the Abia TechRise ICT Training Cohort 2 have reached an advanced stage, reaffirming its commitment to equipping young people with 21st-century digital skills.

During the weekly press briefing at Government House, Umuahia, Commissioner for Information, Prince Sir Okey Kanu, disclosed that the verification of the 850 candidates who applied for the programme has been successfully concluded across the state’s local government areas. He revealed that training for the successful applicants is scheduled to commence on September 25, 2025.

The Commissioner emphasized that the TechRise initiative is a flagship programme under Governor Alex Otti’s administration, designed to empower Abia’s youth with critical ICT knowledge and practical skills. The programme, he explained, is strategically positioned to make Abia youths globally competitive and to harness technology as a driver of economic growth in the state.

By investing in ICT capacity-building, the state government aims to not only reduce unemployment but also create a pool of skilled professionals who can take advantage of emerging opportunities in the digital economy. The TechRise Cohort 2, like the first batch, is expected to serve as a platform for participants to explore pathways in software development, data analytics, digital entrepreneurship, and other fast-evolving areas of technology.

With this initiative, Abia State continues to underscore its vision of preparing a new generation of leaders and innovators who will play pivotal roles in shaping the state’s future.
