“EVERYBODY IS FOR ASIWAJU… IF HE DOES NOT WIN, I’D RESIGN” — GOV. OKPEBHOLO DECLARES AHEAD OF 2027, SAYS THERE’S NO OPPOSITION IN EDO
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has raised the political stakes ahead of the 2027 presidential election with a dramatic declaration that he is willing to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure victory in the state.
The governor, speaking with confidence about the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its growing influence, asserted that the party now dominates Edo’s political atmosphere and faces “no real opposition” going into the next election cycle.
Okpebholo credited the party’s rising strength to President Tinubu’s increasing popularity and the positive impact of his own early initiatives in office. He stressed that Edo residents have become more aware of Tinubu’s contributions, which, according to him, have significantly boosted support for the APC.
Pointing to the recent bye-election in Esan as clear evidence, the governor said the unprecedented results reflect the strong wave of support sweeping through the state. He insisted that Edo people are ready to “thank Asiwaju with their votes” in 2027.
His words:
“Asiwaju is even more popular than me here now because Edo people already know that what I’m doing is because of Asiwaju’s impact.
“You will see the kind of result that will come out from here because there’s no opposition in Edo.
“Did you see the bye-election? We’ve never produced the kind of results we produced in Esan.
“The Esan and Edo people have not even told Asiwaju thank you, and how will they? It’s going to be the votes.
“Everybody is for Asiwaju. The people will thank him with their votes. If he does not win, I’d resign.”
Okpebholo’s open pledge has sparked wide reactions across political circles, positioning Edo State as a major battleground to watch as the 2027 presidential elec
tion draws closer.
