GOV. ALEX OTTI SPEAKS TO ABIANS: GOV. OTTI MOVES TO FIX TEACHERS’ SALARY GLITCH, REAFFIRMS TRANSPARENT RECRUITMENT AS 27,980 APPLY FOR 4,000 TEACHING JOBS
Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has assured that all newly recruited teachers affected by the recent salary payment glitch will receive their wages by the end of the weekend.
The governor gave the assurance on Friday during the November edition of the Monthly Media Parley, Governor Otti Speaks to Abians, held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Umuahia.
Addressing concerns raised by citizens, Governor Otti explained that a temporary system issue had delayed payments for some newly engaged teachers, but clarified that the problem had been resolved. He stated that all affected individuals would be fully paid by Sunday.
The governor also revealed massive public interest in the ongoing recruitment of 4,000 teachers. According to him, the recruitment portal has already recorded 27,980 applications, underscoring both the demand for job opportunities and the confidence in his administration.
He reassured applicants, especially prospective teachers and medical personnel that the recruitment process would be conducted with utmost transparency. He emphasised that only qualified candidates would be selected, stressing that merit and competence remain the guiding principles of his administration.
Turning to youth development, Governor Otti highlighted significant improvements in the welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Abia State. He announced the upward review of corps members’ allowances from ₦4,000 to between ₦50,000, depending on their place of primary assignment.
He further disclosed the government’s ongoing investments in renovating the NYSC Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area. According to him, the aim is to provide conducive living and training facilities for corps members as part of efforts to enhance their overall experience during national service.
