Abia State Govt Denies Alleged Lawsuit Against Federal Government at ‘World Court,’ Labels Report Fake and Malicious
The Abia State Government has dismissed as false, malicious, and deliberately misleading reports alleging that Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, instituted a lawsuit against the Federal Government of Nigeria at a so-called “World Court” over the approval of a proposed cargo airport in Aba.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the state government described the report circulating on social media and fringe platforms as entirely fabricated, stressing that no such lawsuit exists and that the governor has not approached any international court on the matter or any other issue involving the Federal Government.
According to the government, matters relating to aviation infrastructure approvals in Nigeria are clearly guided by established national regulatory and administrative frameworks, noting that the Abia State Government has never contemplated, initiated, or considered any form of international litigation in that regard.
The statement further faulted claims suggesting that Governor Otti accused Nigeria of marginalization or genocide before an international court, describing such narratives as reckless, irresponsible, and indicative of desperation by their authors. It added that allegations claiming the governor accused Lagos State or other parts of the country of killing or denying rights to Igbo people were outright lies designed to inflame ethnic sentiments and create unnecessary tension.
The Abia State Government reaffirmed that Governor Otti is committed to national unity, constitutional engagement, and constructive collaboration with federal authorities, rather than sensationalism or ethnic provocation.
It also described the report as part of a coordinated smear campaign by opposition elements and disgruntled political actors unsettled by the administration’s transparent, reform-driven, and people-oriented governance in the state. The government noted that having failed to challenge its performance with facts, such actors have resorted to crude propaganda and falsehoods.
The government advised members of the public to disregard the report in its entirety and urged media practitioners to verify information from credible and official sources before publication. It also warned that it reserves the right to take appropriate action against individuals or platforms that deliberately spread false information capable of undermining public peace and confidence in government.
The statement concluded by reaffirming that Governor Otti remains focused on rebuilding Abia State through due process, strategic engagement with relevant federal authorities, and the pursuit of sustainable development initiatives for the benefit of Ndi-Abia and Niger
ia as a whole.
