Forum of Academic Doctors Names Alex Otti South-East’s Best Performing Governor as Abia’s Transformation Draws National Attention
The Abia State Government has announced that Governor Alex Chioma Otti has been voted the best performing Governor in the South East geopolitical zone by the Forum of Academic Doctors, in recognition of what was described as massive and far-reaching transformation across critical sectors of the state.
The disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, on Monday at the Government House, Umuahia, during a press briefing on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Otti.
According to the Commissioner, the recognition by the Forum of Academic Doctors reflects growing national and international attention on the pace and direction of governance in Abia State, particularly in areas of infrastructure renewal, institutional reforms, transparency, and service delivery.
Prince Kanu emphasized that although Governor Otti is known for declining awards and public accolades, the consistent reforms and visible changes across the state have continued to attract the interest of professional bodies, academics, and concerned Nigerians who are keenly observing developments in Abia.
“Of course, we are aware that His Excellency does not accept awards, but it is important to note that Nigerians and the entire world are taking notice of what is going on here in the state,” he stated.
He further clarified that the Abia State Government does not lobby for, sponsor, or participate in award processes involving the Governor, stressing that such recognitions are independently driven by external observers who are impressed by the state’s governance trajectory.
“I want to inform us also that, the state does not in any way participate in all these awards that come the way of the Governor,” he said
Prince Kanu added that the interest shown by various groups and professional bodies underscores Abia State’s emerging role as a model of leadership and good governance within the South East and beyond.
“But because Nigerians are interested in what is happening, there are various groups looking up to Abia for leadership” Prince Kanu noted.
The development, he said, serves as further validation of the administration’s reform-driven agenda and its commitment to rebuilding public trust, strengthening institutions, and delivering tangible results that positively impact the l
ives of Abians.
