Abia State Government to Launch Groundbreaking Industrial Policy to Boost Investment and Accelerate Economic Transformation
The Abia State Government has announced plans to introduce a comprehensive Industrial Policy designed to fast-track industrial development, attract significant local and foreign investment, and consolidate the economic reforms achieved under the present administration.
The disclosure was made on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu during a briefing with journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council Meeting, presided over by Governor Alex Chioma Otti.
Prince Kanu emphasized that the proposed policy is a direct outcome of the “strategic and massive transformation of the State by the Otti-led administration in all areas of governance over the past 31 months.”
According to the Commissioner, the reforms already implemented by the government have not only strengthened Abia State’s local economy but have also improved its Ease of Doing Business, positioning the state as an attractive destination for investors seeking sustainable growth opportunities.
Speaking on the specifics of the policy, Prince Kanu said it would provide a detailed roadmap of Abia State’s industrial potentials, available resources, and comparative advantages, while setting clear standards and expectations for investors.
“It is an Industrial Policy that is going to drive the development of the State and is such that will set the standards for investors to come to the State.
“It will spell out what we have in terms of potentials, resources that will attract people because quite a lot of transformation has taken place in the State and institutional reforms have been embarked on.
“Now it is like consolidating these gains with a policy that will spell out for investors what they need to expect from Abia, so that once they go through it and know what we have, they can come down here,” Prince Kanu stated.
Prince Kanu further revealed that the State Government has constituted a dedicated Committee tasked with driving the process of drafting the Industrial Policy.
The policy, he confirmed, is expected to be officially launched in the coming weeks, signaling a new era of industrialization and investment-led growth for Abia State.
The development underscores the Otti administration’s commitment to economic transformation, reinforcing Abia’s position as a hub for industrial activity, entrepreneurship, and innovation in southeastern Nigeria.
