Gov. Alex Otti Approves the Appointment of Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as New Enyimba FC Head Coach, Signals Fresh Push to Restore Club’s Glory
The Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has approved the appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel as the new Head Coach of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba, in a decisive move aimed at repositioning the People’s Elephant for renewed domestic and continental dominance.
The appointment was conveyed through a press statement issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, on Sunday night, January 25, 2026.
Enyimba International Football Club, Nigeria’s most decorated football club and one of Abia State’s strongest sporting symbols, has for decades remained a reference point in African football. The club’s historic feats, including two CAF Champions League titles and multiple Nigeria Professional Football League triumphs, have projected Abia State on the global sporting map and inspired generations of football lovers.
However, recent seasons have witnessed a decline from the club’s celebrated standards, prompting deliberate interventions by the Abia State Government under Governor Otti’s leadership. The current administration has reiterated its firm commitment to restoring Enyimba’s lost glory, entrenching professionalism, strengthening corporate governance, and building a sustainable football institution that can consistently compete at the highest levels.
The appointment of Coach Deutsch Detchoua Gustave Emmanuel is viewed as a strategic step in that direction. A highly experienced football tactician, Coach Emmanuel holds CAF A, B, and C coaching licenses and has served as Technical Adviser and Head Coach for reputable clubs in both Nigeria and Cameroon. His coaching career is marked by notable achievements, including his emergence as the Nigeria National League (NNL) Best Coach in 2025.
Governor Otti has expressed strong confidence that Coach Emmanuel’s technical expertise, discipline, and proven capacity for team building will inject fresh energy into Enyimba’s technical department and accelerate the club’s rebuilding process.
