ASTOPU Umuahia Chairman Urges Men to Prioritize Mental Health, Celebrates Fathers on Special Day
As the world marks the end of Men’s Mental Health Week alongside Father’s Day celebrations, the Chairman of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Umuahia Zone, Hon. Chinweotito Godson Appolos, has called on men to prioritize their mental well-being while embracing the courage to speak out about their struggles.
In a heartfelt message released on Sunday, Appolos paid glowing tribute to fathers, husbands, brothers, sons, and hardworking men across the state, acknowledging their sacrifices and invaluable contributions to their families and society.
He noted that for generations, men have borne enormous responsibilities, often carrying the weight of providing for their loved ones while silently battling emotional, financial, and psychological pressures.
According to him, many men suffer in silence due to societal expectations that discourage them from expressing their vulnerabilities, stressing that true strength should not be measured by one’s ability to endure pain quietly but by the courage to seek help and support when necessary.
The ASTOPU Chairman emphasized the importance of creating a society where men can openly discuss their mental health challenges without fear of judgment or stigmatization. He urged families, friends, community leaders, and stakeholders to foster supportive environments that encourage healthy conversations around mental wellness.
Appolos particularly commended members of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union in the Umuahia Zone for their resilience and commitment to providing for their families despite prevailing economic challenges. He described tricycle operators as hardworking individuals who brave difficult conditions daily to earn a legitimate livelihood and contribute meaningfully to community development.
He further noted that beyond their roles as transport operators, many are fathers, mentors, caregivers, and role models whose efforts deserve recognition and appreciation.
While celebrating Father’s Day, the union leader called on society to honour and appreciate fathers for their sacrifices, dedication, and unwavering commitment to building stable homes and nurturing future generations.
He encouraged men not to allow temporary setbacks to define their lives, reminding them that every challenge presents an opportunity for growth and renewal. He stressed that every man deserves love, support, respect, and the opportunity to thrive mentally, emotionally, and economically.
The message concluded with prayers for God’s protection, strength, and blessings upon all fathers and men, while reaffirming the importance of prioritizing mental health as a key component of personal and family well-being.
The statement comes at a time when global conversations around men’s mental health continue to gain momentum, with advocates calling for increased awareness, support systems, and the removal of stigmas surrounding mental health challenges among men.
As Men’s Mental Health Week draws to a close, Appolos’ message serves as a powerful reminder that behind every strong man is a human being who deserves care, understanding, and support.
