Debt Dispute Turns Deadly in Aba as Man Allegedly Stabs Friend, Gets Lynched by Mob
A tragic incident unfolded in Aba, Abia State, during the weekend after a disagreement over an unpaid debt reportedly escalated into violence, leaving one man dead and another critically injured.
The incident occurred around the Star Paper Mill area along the busy Aba–Owerri Road axis, where a man, whose identity had yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report, allegedly attacked his friend during a heated confrontation over money owed to him.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts, the suspect had approached his friend to demand repayment of a debt. What initially began as a discussion reportedly degenerated into a fierce argument, attracting the attention of passersby and residents within the area.
As tensions rose, the confrontation allegedly turned violent when the man reportedly drew a sharp object and stabbed his friend. The victim was said to have sustained serious injuries during the attack, although his condition remained uncertain at the time of this report, with no official confirmation on whether he survived the assault.
Following the stabbing, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee the scene.
However, his escape was short-lived as angry residents and bystanders within the vicinity reportedly pursued and apprehended him.
Eyewitnesses said the crowd descended on the suspect in a mob action, inflicting severe injuries on him. He was reportedly killed on the spot before any intervention could be made.
The shocking incident threw the area into confusion, with traders, motorists, and residents gathering at the scene as news of the deadly altercation spread across the neighbourhood.
The development has once again raised concerns about the increasing trend of mob justice and the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands, even in situations involving serious criminal allegations.
