Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez Choose Intimate Home Wedding Over Celebrity Spectacle
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez have chosen to celebrate their marriage in a remarkably private and intimate way, opting for a wedding at home rather than the lavish celebrity ceremony many might have expected from one of the world’s most famous couples.
The couple tied the knot on August 11, marking exactly 10 years since their relationship began after they first met at a Gucci store in Madrid. Despite their extraordinary global fame and a combined Instagram following of more than 750 million people, Ronaldo and Georgina decided to keep the occasion largely within the family, choosing their home in Portugal as the setting for the special milestone.
Their decision reflects a desire to place family, privacy and genuine memories at the centre of their celebration after a demanding period filled with football, professional commitments and the responsibilities of raising their children.
Georgina revealed that her idea of a dream wedding had changed significantly over the years. She once imagined an extravagant ceremony complete with a huge castle, a carriage, a flowing wedding dress and a diamond crown. However, with time, she came to value a more personal and intimate celebration.
“Now I’m saying: no. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home,” she said.
For Georgina, the decision was not about giving up luxury but about recognising that material extravagance was already part of their everyday lives. With access to expensive homes, cars, horses, islands and other luxuries, she explained that something simple and deeply personal had become much more meaningful.
“Because castles, houses, islands, horses, cars: We have all of that within reach every day. But something intimate, that’s more unusual for us,” Georgina said.
The couple deliberately selected their living room as the setting for the ceremony, giving the wedding an even deeper emotional significance.
Rather than choosing a grand hotel, historic venue or exotic destination, they celebrated in the very space where their family shares ordinary moments together.
“We’ve chosen to do it in the living room of our house here, where we have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we live the reality of our lives,” Georgina said.
The choice was particularly important to Georgina because she wanted their children to remember the occasion as a family experience rather than another spectacular event associated with their parents’ global celebrity status.
Her hope was that, many years from now, the children would look back and remember that something extraordinary happened around their family table, in the same home where they experienced the everyday moments that define their lives together.
Although the ceremony was intimate, it still carried touches of the luxury associated with the couple. Georgina wore her large oval-cut diamond engagement ring and planned to complement it with a Chopard necklace featuring a 50-carat diamond.
Ronaldo, Georgina and their children also dressed in specially made Gucci outfits, creating a meaningful connection to the story of their relationship. Gucci was where Ronaldo and Georgina first crossed paths a decade ago, making the choice of the fashion house for their wedding attire particularly symbolic.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds travelled to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, where they received a private blessing, adding a spiritual dimension to their wedding celebrations.
For a couple whose lives are constantly followed by millions around the world, the decision to keep such a significant moment away from the spotlight was striking.
Rather than turning their wedding into another global spectacle, Ronaldo and Georgina chose to celebrate it according to their own priorities, surrounded by their children and within the familiar walls of their home.
The intimate ceremony ultimately reflected what the couple appeared to value most: family, privacy, shared memories and a life together beyond the glamour and enormous public att
ention that accompany their names.
