Bank of America Vice President, Erin Piacenti, Stabbed to Death in Broad Daylight Attack at New York’s Times Square
A Bank of America (BoA) vice president has been stabbed to death in a shocking broad-daylight attack at New York City’s iconic Times Square, sending shock waves through the financial institution and raising fresh concerns about safety in one of the city’s busiest tourist destinations.
The victim, identified as 32-year-old Erin Piacenti, was reportedly attacked on Monday in the heart of Manhattan, where thousands of residents, tourists and workers pass through daily.
Piacenti was a vice president in Bank of America’s business selection and conflicts unit, according to information on her LinkedIn profile. Her death has since triggered grief among colleagues and those who knew her professionally.
Bank of America confirmed the tragic loss in a statement issued to Reuters on Tuesday.
“We are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. She was a valued teammate who will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to her family and all of her loved ones,“ the U.S. banking giant said in an emailed statement to Reuters on Tuesday.
According to New York City officials, the violence occurred in broad daylight in Times Square, an area renowned for its huge crowds, illuminated billboards and heavy police presence.
New York City Mayor, Zohran Mamdani said during a press briefing on Monday that a woman carrying multiple large knives allegedly stabbed two people before police intervened.
Mamdani said officers used a Taser and subsequently fired their weapons during the confrontation with the suspect.
The New York Police Department said Piacenti sustained multiple stab wounds in the attack. She was transported for medical attention but was later pronounced dead.
A 68-year-old man was also stabbed during the incident, according to police. He survived the attack and was reported to be in stable condition.
The NYPD identified the suspect as a woman who has a history of mental health issues. Authorities have not indicated what may have prompted the attack or whether Piacenti was specifically targeted.
The circumstances surrounding the stabbing remain under investigation as detectives work to establish exactly what happened before, during and after the violent encounter.
The incident has drawn particular attention because it occurred in Times Square, one of New York City’s most heavily visited public spaces and a major symbol of the city.
Piacenti’s death has also resonated within Bank of America, one of the largest financial institutions in the United States.
The bank’s Manhattan office at One Bryant Park is located just a short distance from Times Square, placing the tragedy close to one of the company’s major New York operations.
Bank of America maintains several financial centers and offices across New York City, a global financial hub where thousands of banking and investment professionals work every day.
For colleagues, however, the incident represents more than a disturbing headline. It is the sudden loss of a young professional described by the bank as a valued member of its team.
