Abia Opens Recruitment Portal for Medical Consultants, Officers as State Reports No Major Disease Outbreak
The Abia State Government has announced that its recruitment portal remains open for qualified medical professionals seeking employment into the state’s healthcare system.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, September 7, 2026, while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of the week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Dr. Alex Otti, OFR.
According to the Commissioner, the ongoing recruitment exercise is targeting additional medical personnel needed to strengthen staffing across the state’s medical facilities.
He listed the positions currently available as medical consultants, medical officers and dental officers, urging qualified professionals to take advantage of the opportunity while the recruitment portal remains open.
The latest recruitment drive forms part of the Otti administration’s broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery in Abia by strengthening the workforce and ensuring that medical facilities have adequate personnel to meet the needs of residents.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner provided a positive update on disease surveillance across the state, revealing that no cases of diseases of public health importance had been reported during the period under review.
He said the diseases monitored included Ebola, Lassa fever, COVID-19, diphtheria, cholera, mpox and yellow fever.
The development offers reassurance to residents as the state continues to maintain surveillance and public health measures aimed at preventing and responding promptly to infectious disea
se outbreaks.
