The United States Mission in Nigeria has celebrated Nigerian-American entrepreneurs Ikenna Nzewi and Uzoma Ayogu for their innovative contributions to agricultural technology through their company, Releaf, which is transforming palm oil processing and attracting significant investment.
The recognition highlights the growing impact of Nigerian entrepreneurial talent on agricultural innovation, food production and the development of technology-driven solutions to longstanding challenges in the agricultural sector.
In a post on its official X account, the US Mission Nigeria applauded the duo for developing innovative technology designed to make palm oil processing significantly more efficient, helping farmers maximise the value of their harvests while strengthening the commercial potential of the industry.
The mission wrote, “Nigerian-American founders Ikenna Nzewi and Uzoma Ayogu are transforming palm oil processing through @Releaf. Their innovative technology has made processing dramatically more efficient, helping farmers get more from their harvests and attracting more than $10 million in investment. The recognition underscores the role of technology and entrepreneurship in modernising traditional agricultural practices, particularly in Nigeria, where palm oil production remains an important source of livelihood for farmers, processors and other participants in the agricultural value chain.
By introducing technological solutions to palm oil processing, Nzewi and Ayogu are helping address efficiency challenges that have historically affected the industry. Improved processing methods can enable farmers and processors to extract greater value from harvested palm fruits, reduce operational bottlenecks and improve the commercial viability of their businesses.
Their company, Releaf, has also attracted more than $10 million in investment, reflecting investor interest in technology-driven approaches to agricultural production and processing.
The development is particularly significant for Nigeria, one of Africa’s major palm oil-producing countries, where improved processing capacity could support local industries, create economic opportunities and strengthen the competitiveness of agricultural businesses.
Beyond their commercial achievements, the entrepreneurs’ recognition by the US Mission Nigeria also draws attention to the potential of Nigerian-founded businesses to develop solutions with wider economic relevance.
Their story demonstrates how innovation, strategic investment and entrepreneurship can help bridge the gap between traditional agriculture and modern industrial technology.
As Nigeria continues to explore ways to strengthen agricultural productivity, the achievements of Nzewi and Ayogu offer an example of how homegrown entrepreneurial talent can contribute to transforming key sectors of the economy while attracting international investmen
