ABIA TO DISTRIBUTE OVER 3 MILLION MOSQUITO NETS AS 2026 MASS CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF OCTOBER 16
The Abia State Government is set to distribute approximately 3,003,250 insecticide-treated mosquito nets across the state as part of its 2026 Mass Mosquito Net Campaign aimed at preventing malaria and protecting residents from mosquito-borne infections.
The campaign will be formally launched on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the JAAC Secretariat, Umuahia, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing public health interventions.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced the development on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
According to the Commissioner, the distribution exercise will cover communities across Abia State, with more than three million mosquito nets expected to reach households as part of efforts to strengthen malaria prevention and safeguard public health.
The mass distribution campaign is expected to encourage the consistent use of insecticide-treated nets, particularly among vulnerable groups, including children and pregnant women, who face increased risks associated with malaria.
The initiative also underscores the importance of preventive healthcare and community participation in reducing malaria transmission across the state.
Residents are encouraged to support the campaign and take advantage of the distribution exercise to improve protection for themselves and their families as Abia intensifies its efforts to promote healthier c
ommunities.
