NDC PICKS SENATOR NKECHI NWOGU AS ABIA PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR, SIDELINES GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE, NDUBUISI OGAH
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed its Abia Central Senatorial Candidate, Senator Nkechi Nwogu, as the party’s Presidential Campaign Coordinator for Abia State, a move that reportedly sidelines its governorship candidate, Mr. Etugo Ndubuisi Ogah, from the strategic presidential campaign leadership structure.
The development has reportedly triggered questions within party circles over the decision to entrust the coordination of the party’s presidential campaign in Abia State to Senator Nwogu rather than its governorship candidate, particularly as political activities gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle.
According to sources close to the party, concerns were raised about Ogah’s political experience, organisational capacity and ability to coordinate a statewide presidential campaign. The sources reportedly suggested that the party would prefer a figure with stronger political networks and a clearer understanding of the state’s political dynamics to lead such a critical assignment.
The sources also expressed concerns over the possibility of external political influences affecting Ogah’s commitment to the party’s presidential campaign, citing his family connections, including Dr. Samson Uchechukwu Ogah and Rep. Amobi Ogah.
However, the suggestion that these relationships could influence his political decisions remains an allegation that has not been independently verified.
Beyond the presidential campaign arrangement, questions have also reportedly emerged over Ogah’s political visibility and his ability to establish a formidable grassroots structure since emerging as the party’s governorship candidate in Abia State.
Party insiders were said to have argued that Ogah should concentrate on building his political profile, strengthening the NDC’s structures across the state and fostering cooperation with other candidates contesting under the party’s platform, rather than directing his political energy towards attacking the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Dr. Alex Otti.
The development highlights the importance of internal coordination, political credibility and strategic alliances in determining the effectiveness of political parties as they position themselves for future elections.
For the NDC, the appointment of Senator Nwogu represents a significant decision concerning the leadership of its presidential campaign in Abia State. Whether the arrangement will strengthen the party’s electoral machinery or deepen questions about the role of its governorship candidate remains to be seen.
As of the time of this report, the party’s official explanation for the appointment and the response of Senator Nwogu and Ogah to the reported concerns we
re not available.
