Brenda Biya, Daughter of Cameroon’s Long-Serving President Paul Biya, Urges Citizens Not to Vote for Her Father in October 2025 Election, Citing Poverty, Unemployment, and Stagnation After 43 Years in Power

Brenda Biya, daughter of Cameroon’s president, Paul Biya, has called on citizens not to vote for her father in the October 2025 election.

According to DW Africa, speaking during a TikTok live session, Brenda, who is popularly known as “King Nasty,” openly criticized her father’s leadership, stating that his 43 years in power had left Cameroon trapped in poverty, unemployment, and stagnation. Her remarks have since sparked widespread debate within Cameroon and across the African continent.

The 92-year-old Paul Biya, who is seeking re-election for an eighth term as president, remains one of the world’s longest-serving leaders. His decades in office have been marred by recurring accusations of corruption, authoritarianism, and highly disputed elections, raising questions about the future of democracy in Cameroon.

Reports confirm that Biya officially declared his candidacy for the upcoming October 12, 2025, presidential election. His announcement was made through a post on his verified X account, reaffirming his intention to extend his grip on power.

In his declaration, Biya wrote: “Rest assured that my determination to serve you matches the urgency of the challenges we face.” He further explained that his decision came in response to what he described as “numerous and insistent” calls from Cameroonian citizens both at home and in the diaspora.

Biya first assumed power in 1982, following the resignation of Cameroon’s first president, Ahmadou Ahidjo. Since then, he has consolidated political control and weathered several crises, but critics argue that his extended rule has stifled progress, widened inequality, and hindered democratic reforms.

Brenda’s open opposition to her father’s candidacy is seen by many as a rare public challenge from within the president’s own family, intensifying discussions ahead of the high-stakes election.
