President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate’s confirmation of Dr. Musa Babayo as the substantive Chairman of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

The request was contained in a letter transmitted to the upper legislative chamber and read during Wednesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In the correspondence, President Tinubu urged the Senate to give due consideration and approval to Babayo’s nomination in line with the legal provisions establishing FERMA.

Dr. Musa Babayo, an experienced administrator and technocrat, is expected to bring renewed focus and professional expertise to the agency responsible for the maintenance and rehabilitation of federal roads across Nigeria, a sector critical to national economic development and connectivity.

In a related development, the Senate also witnessed the swearing-in of two newly elected lawmakers. Joseph Ikpea of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took the oath of office as the Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, while Emmanuel Nwachukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was sworn in as the new Senator for Anambra South Senatorial District.

Their inauguration followed the validation of their electoral victories, and both lawmakers are expected to join in the ongoing legislative activities, including the consideration of key national appointments such as that of the FERMA chairman.

With the new additions and pending confirmations, the 10th Senate continues to consolidate its role in ensuring efficient governance and the smooth implementation of President Tinubu’s infrastructural renewal agenda.
