The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria has raised an international alarm, issuing a powerful and urgent appeal to the White House and calling on the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to immediately deploy military and diplomatic measures to address what it describes as a “Christian genocide” currently unfolding across Nigeria.

In an open letter addressed directly to the U.S. President and endorsed by the coalition’s Global Coordinator, Comrade Frederick Odorige, the organisation emphasized that its body, “registered in the US by Nigerians in diaspora for the support and promotion of security and democracy in Nigeria,” stands firmly behind America’s recent designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern. The coalition also expressed full support for Washington’s declared commitment to tackling the terrorist organisations wreaking havoc across Nigeria.

A copy of the letter, the group confirmed, was also dispatched to Mr Brian Mast, Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee Majority, as part of efforts to draw global attention to the escalating insecurity.

The coalition did not mince words in its condemnation of the Nigerian government, accusing authorities of deploying “propaganda” to downplay the widespread killings and kidnappings. It insisted that despite attacks affecting people of different backgrounds, Christians remain the primary target.

It wrote: “Though the terrorists are killing and kidnapping people from diverse religious backgrounds, Christians are the main targets in the north and middle belt to violently grab land and to establish an Islamic state.

“Now, the Islamic terrorists have quickly moved to the Southern regions which are predominantly Christian.”

According to the coalition, political and religious leaders have failed to act decisively.

“Since the killing of Muslims and others in the past 15 years, Muslim leaders who are mostly in the northern region of the country, have deliberately refused to take concrete actions to end the criminality. This connivance cannot be disputed as the same people unite to discuss other issues such as tax reforms,” It stated.

The group applauded the recent classification of Nigeria by Pope Leo XIV as a nation where Christians face severe discrimination, describing the papal position as “true, indisputable and a diplomatic understatement.”

The letter went further to accuse Nigerian authorities and regional bodies of engaging in “renewed propaganda,” particularly by pushing narratives aimed at diluting global concern.

“This is a government that has travelled multiple times abroad with the story of seeking foreign investors but deliberately refused to call for foreign help to fight terrorism in a country where our people now pay taxes to terrorists in various local government areas,” It stressed.

The coalition also criticised Vice President Kashim Shettima, recalling his campaign declaration that he would personally lead Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations.

It wrote: “Since their resumption in office between May 2023 till date, Shettima has remained silent on his promised lies. Since then, at least 14,000 Nigerians have been killed,” adding that thousands of earlier casualties under the Buhari administration formed part of the unresolved national tragedy.

Highlighting the issue of terrorism financing, the coalition faulted Nigeria’s failure to prosecute individuals previously named by the United Arab Emirates in 2021. It accused the government of complicity, stating: “Though the names of financiers of terrorism in Nigeria were released by the government of the United Arab Emirates since 2021, the APC-led government of Nigeria, deliberately refused to prosecute the people because it is a terrorist-friendly government.”

Arguing that Nigerian terrorism poses a danger to global peace, the organisation urged the U.S. President to act swiftly and decisively. Citing America’s historic military precision, the coalition noted past successful operations, including the killing of Osama bin Laden and the rescue of an abducted U.S. citizen in Niger State as evidence of capability.

“You successfully did this without desecrating the sovereignty of Nigeria,” it stated.

In its appeal for intervention, the coalition called for a combination of military, humanitarian and economic measures, including precision strikes on terrorist camps, sanctions on identified sponsors, U.S. visits to internally displaced persons’ camps, and the confiscation of assets belonging to Nigerian officials allegedly linked to corruption or terrorism support.

It declared: “Rather, we call for the total military extermination of terrorists, their sponsors and the direct sanctioning of individuals who are remotely connected to stifling the rights of the Nigerian people.”

Affirming support for Trump’s recent anti-terror pronouncements, the coalition wrote: “There is clearly a genocide against Christians in Nigeria and we believe that your declaration to attack the terrorists, is an answer to the prayers of millions of our people.”

Issuing a chilling warning, the group cautioned that hesitation could worsen the crisis.

It concluded: “Sir, if action is delayed, tomorrow may be too late. Nigerians need urgent help. A stitch in time saves nine.”

Meanwhile, tragedy struck again on Tuesday as reported earlier by SaharaReporters. Panic and grief gripped Eruku town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State when terrorists stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), murdering three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers invaded the church during a meeting and immediately opened fire, sending worshippers fleeing in terror. Three persons were killed instantly, while an unspecified number of people were seized and taken away by the gunmen.

The fresh attack further amplifies the coalition’s warnings and underscores the worsening state of insecurity across Nigeria.
