ABA SOUTH CHAIRMAN, HON. OBIALOR DENIS ANYANWU STORMS ENYIMBA STADIUM FOR GRAND FINALE OF ABIA SOCCER FEST, LEADS CELEBRATION AS WARD 8 EMERGES CHAMPION
In a vibrant show of leadership, community engagement, and passion for youth development, the Executive Chairman of Aba South Local Government Area, Hon. Obialor Denis Anyanwu, on Monday, December 1, 2025, stormed the iconic Enyimba Sports Stadium to grace the thrilling grand finale of the Abia Soccer Fest, a tournament that has fast become a unifying force among youths in Aba South.
The much-anticipated final match between Ekeoha Ward 8 and Aba Town Hall Ward 12 lived up to its billing as spectators were treated to an electrifying display of skill, strength, and determination. The encounter ended 2–2 at full time after a spirited performance from both sides, forcing the match into a nail-biting penalty shootout that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
As the distinguished Guest of Honour, Hon. Anyanwu seized the moment to inspire the young athletes, emphasizing the role of sports in promoting unity, peaceful coexistence, and positive youth engagement. He applauded the organizers for putting together a tournament that continues to shine as a beacon of hope for budding football talents while providing wholesome recreation for residents of Aba South.
The final match showcased exceptional sportsmanship. Ward 8, driven by their tenacious captain, dominated the early stages of the game, but Ward 12 remained unyielding and strategic. Their resilience paid off as they fought back to score two crucial goals before the final whistle.
However, Ward 8 proved superior during the penalty decider, netting five shots against Ward 12’s three, sealing their victory and earning the coveted championship trophy.
During the trophy presentation, Hon. Anyanwu reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to nurturing sports development across the LGA. He highlighted the profound impact of sports in shaping the character, discipline, and future prospects of young people. He further expressed gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for his unmatched dedication to sports and youth empowerment in Abia State.
The event also drew an impressive lineup of notable government officials, including the member representing Aba Central State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Stephen Akachukwu Ucheonye; Deputy Chairman of Aba South LGA, Hon. Martins Azubuike Nwankwo; Leader of Aba South Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Prince Paul Nwandu and councillors; Supervisor for Education, Youth and Sports, Hon. Onuoha Nelson Agwara; Supervisor for Works, Hon. Uche Ogaraku, among others.
