GLOBAL CONCERN ON RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION AS U.S. LAWMAKER, ROBERT ADERHOLT, WARNS THAT NIGERIA IS BECOMING ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST DANGEROUS PLACES FOR CHRISTIANS
Nigeria has been spotlighted on the global stage once again, this time over increasing violence against Christians in various parts of the country. A strong warning was issued during a recent international roundtable, where United States Congressman, Rep. Robert Aderholt described Nigeria as rapidly becoming one of the most dangerous places on Earth for those who choose to follow the Christian faith.
Aderholt, a serving Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Alabama’s 4th District, expressed deep concern over the growing attacks on Christian communities, religious leaders, and places of worship across Nigeria. He urged the international community not to downplay what he described as a worsening humanitarian and faith-based crisis.
The lawmaker stressed that the rising trend of religious persecution must not be ignored by policy makers. He assured that, in his capacity as one of the U.S. Congressional appropriators, he and his colleagues would continue to champion the cause of religious liberty by supporting policies and funding that protect faith communities worldwide.
Aderholt reiterated that the United States has a moral responsibility to defend every individual’s right to worship freely, warning that silence in the face of such threats could embolden extremist elements. His comments add to existing concerns voiced by human rights bodies, faith organizations, and global observers, calling for stronger intervention to protect vulnerable populations in Nigeria.
The statement comes at a time when international pressure is mounting on governments and global institutions to respond more decisively to religious intolerance and targeted violence within the country.
