ABIA POLICE COMMAND ARRESTS THREE SUSPECTED GUN RUNNERS, RECOVERS SEVEN FIREARMS IN OBINGWA
The Abia State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on illegal arms proliferation with the arrest of three suspected gun runners and the recovery of seven assorted firearms during an intelligence-led operation in Obingwa Local Government Area.
According to the Command, the operation, carried out in the early hours of Thursday, 11 December 2025, followed credible and actionable intelligence that led operatives to the hideout of the suspects. The three menidentified as Nworu John, 65; Chikezie Ubani, 65; and Collins Ukandu, 55, were arrested at the scene.
Recovered exhibits include two automatic pump-action guns, three locally made double-barrel guns, one single-barrel pump-action gun, one locally fabricated six-round revolver, and four live cartridges. The Police confirmed that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation as investigations intensify to uncover their network and possible links to criminal groups.
The Command noted that the latest success forms part of its broader security operations ahead of the Yuletide season. Several arms have been recovered in recent weeks, with numerous suspects arraigned and successfully prosecuted as part of efforts to maintain peace and safety across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, reassured residents of Abia State of the Command’s unwavering resolve to combat crime in all forms. He urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to law enforcement authorities.
