Nigeria, United States Deepen Security and Intelligence Cooperation, Record Precision Airstrikes on Terrorist Targets in North-West
The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed sustained security cooperation and intelligence collaboration with international partners, including the United States of America, in ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and violent extremism across the country.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Nigerian authorities disclosed that the structured partnership has yielded concrete results, including precision airstrikes on identified terrorist targets in the North-West region of Nigeria. The strikes, carried out based on actionable intelligence, form part of broader counter-terrorism operations aimed at degrading the capacity of violent extremist groups.
According to the Ministry, the Nigeria–United States cooperation aligns with established international practices and bilateral understandings. It encompasses intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of support conducted in line with international law, respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security.
The Federal Government reaffirmed that the protection of civilian lives remains central to all counter-terrorism actions. It emphasized that national unity and the rights and dignity of all citizens regardless of faith or ethnicity are paramount in the conduct of security operations. The government stressed that terrorist violence, whether directed at Christians, Muslims, or any other community, is unacceptable and represents a direct assault on Nigeria’s core values and international peace and security.
Nigeria further noted that it continues to engage closely with its partners through established diplomatic and security channels to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and curb cross-border threats. These collaborative efforts are also designed to strengthen Nigeria’s own security institutions and intelligence capabilities for more effective, home-grown responses to security challenges.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the public that it will maintain engagement with relevant partners and provide updates through official channels as operations and diplomatic efforts progress.
The statement was signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, anipr, and issued on Friday, December 26, 2025.
