INEC Debunks Reports of 2027 General Election Timetable
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports claiming that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election, describing such information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commission clarified that it has not published any timetable or schedule relating to the 2027 polls. INEC stressed that reports suggesting otherwise did not originate from the Commission and should be disregarded.
INEC explained that its operations are guided strictly by the law, particularly the Electoral Act, 2022.
According to Section 28(1) of the Act, the Commission is required to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date appointed for a general election. It emphasized that any timetable or schedule released outside this legal framework cannot be attributed to INEC.
The electoral body assured Nigerians that the official timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election will be released in due course and in full compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), as well as the Electoral Act, 2022. It added that when the timetable is eventually released, it will be communicated through INEC’s established and verified channels.
INEC further urged members of the public and the media to ignore fake reports and rely solely on information from its official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates.
