LG Electronics Raises Red Alert Over Fake Televisions Flooding Nigerian Markets, Warns Consumers of Safety Risks and Zero Warranty
LG Electronics Nigeria has issued a strong public warning over the circulation of counterfeit LG televisions in Nigerian markets, following the emergence of disturbing online videos showing unauthorized individuals repackaging non-LG television sets in fake LG-branded cartons and labels.
The company described the development as alarming and dangerous, stressing that the counterfeit products being passed off as LG televisions are neither manufactured nor distributed by LG Electronics Nigeria or any of its accredited partners.
According to the company, the fake products pose serious risks to unsuspecting consumers, ranging from poor performance and short lifespan to electrical faults that could endanger lives and property. Customers who purchase such products are also left without any form of LG warranty or after-sales support.
Reacting to the situation, LG Electronics Nigeria expressed deep concern over the potential harm these counterfeit products could cause to Nigerian households.
“We are deeply concerned by the spread of these counterfeit TVs and the potential harm to Nigerian families. At LG, consumer safety and product quality are our top priorities.
We remain dedicated to providing our customers with genuine products and ensuring their peace of mind,” said Moses Osime, Public Relations Manager, LG Electronics Nigeria.
In an official statement, the electronics giant outlined practical steps consumers can take to protect themselves from falling victim to the growing scam.
LG advised customers to exercise caution and be intentional when purchasing televisions, especially in an era where counterfeiters are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
Customers are advised to only buy LG TVs from authorized LG dealers and retail outlets;
Check for original LG factory seals, correct model details, serial numbers, and official warranty cards;
If a price seems too good to be true, it probably is;
Register and verify their LG product at https://www.lg.com/africa/support/product-validation or contact our customer service team.
The company further reassured Nigerians of its commitment to transparency, consumer education, and quality assurance, noting that public awareness remains a critical tool in the fight against counterfeit electronics.
“LG Electronics Nigeria appreciates the vigilance and trust of its customers.
“We committed to keeping the public informed, supporting Nigerian families, and upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and trust.
“We encourage the public to always stay alert and make informed decisions when purchasing electronics,” the statement read.
LG Electronics Nigeria urged consumers to report suspicious products or sellers through its official customer service channels, as it continues to collaborate with relevant authorities and stakeholders to curb the spread of fake LG products across the country.
