Nigeria @ 66: Aba North Mayor, Timothy Iheke Calls for Unity, Hope, Hard Work, Says “The Future Is Still Ours to Build“
The Executive Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, has called on Nigerians to renew their faith in the country and commit themselves to building a stronger, more united and prosperous nation as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Mayor Iheke, in an Independence Day message to Nigerians, described the anniversary as more than a celebration of a date on the national calendar, saying it should also serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation’s founding generation and a renewed call for citizens to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s development.
According to the Aba North Mayor, Nigeria’s 66-year journey has been characterised by challenges, but the resilience and determination of Nigerians have continued to keep the nation moving forward.
He noted that despite the difficulties encountered over the years, Nigerians have consistently demonstrated the capacity to rise above adversity, rebuild their communities, innovate and maintain hope for a better future.
Hon. Iheke urged Nigerians to focus more on the values that unite the country, stressing the need for citizens to choose peace over conflict, hard work over despair, unity over division and hope over hopelessness.
He emphasised that building the Nigeria of the people’s dreams cannot be left to government alone, but requires the collective commitment, integrity, sacrifice and patriotism of citizens across all sectors.
The Mayor also highlighted the enormous potential of Aba and its people, describing the commercial city as a symbol of Nigerian ingenuity, enterprise, creativity and resilience.
He said the determination and entrepreneurial spirit of the people of Aba demonstrate what Nigerians can achieve when talent, opportunity and purposeful leadership come together.
Hon. Iheke further called for sustained efforts to create opportunities for young people, empower entrepreneurs, strengthen communities and provide a better foundation for future generations.
Addressing Nigerian youths in particular, the Aba North Mayor urged them not to lose faith in their country or underestimate their capacity to contribute to national development.
He said their ideas, talents, courage and determination remain essential to the emergence of the Nigeria that citizens aspire to build.
The Mayor also used the occasion to call for a renewed national commitment to justice, peace, prosperity, accountability and equal opportunities, stressing that these values must move beyond aspirations and become realities in the lives of Nigerians.
According to him, the challenges confronting the country should not extinguish the collective hope of Nigerians, but should strengthen their determination to work towards a better nation.
“The Nigeria of our dreams is possible. The future is still ours to build,” Hon. Iheke said, urging Nigerians to remain committed to the common good.
He expressed confidence that with faith in God, love for the nation and a shared commitment to national development, Nigeria can emerge stronger, more prosperous and more united.
The Aba North Mayor, on behalf of his family, the people and government of Aba North Local Government Area, congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
He prayed for continued blessings upon Nigeria, Abia State, Aba North and all Nigerians, while calling on citizens to embrace the spirit of patriotism, unity and hope as the country enters another year of nationhood.
