The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Umuahia (The Living Spring Diocese), has formally expressed gratitude, encouragement, and a vote of confidence in Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, praising what it described as a purposeful, people-focused, and morally grounded leadership.
In a pastoral letter dated Wednesday, January 13, 2026, and signed by the Methodist Archbishop of Umuahia, Most Rev. (Dr.) Chibuzo Raphael Opoko, the Church acknowledged Governor Otti’s administration for redefining governance in Abia State within a short period. The Archbishop noted that, amid the challenges often associated with Nigerian politics, the governor has distinguished himself through clarity of vision, courage, accountability, and speed in policy execution.
The Church stated that under Governor Otti’s leadership, Abia State has transitioned from years of institutional decline to a phase marked by renewal, discipline, and restored public confidence.
According to the letter, the impact of the administration goes beyond physical infrastructure to the rebuilding of trust in public institutions and the restoration of dignity in governance.
Highlighting key areas of transformation, the Methodist Church commended reforms in the education sector aimed at restoring standards and discipline, the systematic payment of outstanding salaries and pension arrears, and ongoing health sector improvements that strengthen access to quality care and affirm the value of human life. The Church also acknowledged what it described as a visible infrastructure renaissance across the state, with projects reconnecting communities, stimulating economic activities, and improving overall quality of life.
The Archbishop further observed that effective governance and godly leadership are not mutually exclusive, stressing that integrity, accountability, and compassion in leadership reflect responsible stewardship. He described the governor’s approach to leadership as one anchored in moral responsibility and service to the common good.
While acknowledging the existence of political distractions and criticisms, the Church encouraged Governor Otti to remain focused on delivering democratic dividends to the people, noting that resistance often accompanies reform-oriented leadership. It urged the governor to stay committed to truth, justice, and ethical governance, assuring him of divine guidance and vindication.
On behalf of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Archdiocese of Umuahia, the Archbishop offered prayers for continued wisdom, strength, protection, and grace for the governor, while reaffirming the Church’s moral support and goodwill.
The letter concluded with a clear vote of confidence in Governor Otti’s administration and a commitment by the Methodist Church to continue praying for the success and lasting impact of his leadership in Abia State.
