TERRIFYING ONLINE LURE IN DELTA AS LADY RESCUED AFTER ALLEGEDLY BEING TIED TO TREE IN BUSH, SUSPECTS ARRESTED FOR CYBER-LINKED ROBBERY SCHEME
A disturbing incident in Delta State has sparked widespread concern over the growing dangers associated with online interactions, after a woman identified as Anthonia was allegedly lured, assaulted, and robbed by men she met on the internet.
The shocking development came to light through a viral video circulating on social media, showing the victim tied to a tree in a secluded bush before she was rescued by local vigilantes.
According to reports, Anthonia had connected with one of the suspects online. After a period of communication, the man allegedly persuaded her to meet him in person. What was supposed to be a friendly meeting quickly turned into a nightmare.
Upon her arrival at the agreed location, the situation reportedly took a dangerous turn. She was allegedly forced into a nearby bush by the suspect and an accomplice. There, she was tied to a tree and restrained while the suspects accessed her mobile phone and personal banking details.
Preliminary accounts indicate that the attackers transferred money from her bank account into a betting account. In a further alarming revelation, one of the suspects reportedly confessed that his partner had gone out to lure another unsuspecting victim using the same method, suggesting a coordinated pattern of online deception and targeted robbery.
Swift intervention by local vigilantes led to Anthonia’s rescue. The suspects were apprehended and subsequently handed over, or were in the process of being handed over, to the police authorities in Delta State for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The incident has reignited conversations about online safety and the risks of meeting strangers without proper verification and precautionary measures. Security experts continue to advise individuals to exercise extreme caution when interacting with unfamiliar persons online, avoid sharing sensitive personal or financial information, and always meet in secure, public environments if physical meetings become necessary.
As digital platforms continue to connect millions of people daily, this frightening episode serves as a sobering reminder that vigilance, awareness, and personal safety must remain a
top priority.
