Aba North Set for Massive Free Eye Care Outreach as Mayor, Timothy Iheke Partners Gift Health Plus, Rachel Nwanjoku Foundation to Deliver Lifeline to Residents
Residents of Aba North Local Government Area are set to benefit from a comprehensive and impactful health outreach initiative as the Mayor, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, forges a strategic partnership with Gift Health Plus and the Rachel Nwanjoku Foundation to bring free healthcare services closer to the people.
The collaborative effort, which is scheduled to take place in the coming days, is aimed at addressing critical healthcare needs, particularly among vulnerable and underserved populations within the local government area.
Receiving the delegation at his office, Hon. Iheke warmly welcomed the team and expressed deep appreciation for their thoughtful decision to select Aba North as one of the beneficiaries of the outreach programme. He assured them of his administration’s full support and commitment towards ensuring the success of the initiative.
In the course of the engagement, the Mayor highlighted ongoing humanitarian efforts within the council, including the touching case of abandoned children currently being cared for under his administration through the dedicated efforts of a council staff member, Mrs. Oluchi Arisa. He revealed that among the children are individuals with unique and delicate health conditions, underscoring the urgent need for sustained medical and social interventions in the area.
Speaking during a private session, the Chief Executive Officer of Gift Health Plus, Dr. Chamberlain Nwanne, outlined the organization’s core mission of delivering free, high-quality healthcare services to vulnerable populations across Nigeria and Africa. He noted that their interventions primarily target indigent communities, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and prison inmates, groups often neglected in conventional healthcare delivery systems.
He further explained that the team’s visit to Aba North was primarily to finalize logistical arrangements ahead of the outreach.
According to him, the programme will feature a comprehensive eye care initiative designed to cater to both residents and staff of the Aba North Local Government Council. The outreach will include eye examinations, consultations, and the provision of necessary medical support to those in need.
Also lending her voice, Evangelist Rachel Nwanjoku of the Rachel Nwanjoku Foundation emphasized that the collaboration was driven by a shared vision to extend humanitarian services to the grassroots. She noted that the foundation, in partnership with Gift Health Plus, is committed to ensuring seamless planning and execution of the outreach in Aba North.
She revealed that beneficiaries will receive free reading glasses, while also having the opportunity for one-on-one consultations with qualified medical professionals.
According to her, the outreach team will include three optometrists, with an additional specialist assigned specifically to attend to council staff.
Evangelist Nwanjoku further highlighted the broader scope of her foundation’s humanitarian engagements, which include supporting the less privileged, rehabilitating school dropouts, and providing assistance to prison inmates.
The high-level meeting also had in attendance key officials of the Aba North Local Government Council, including the Head of Service, the Head of Personnel Management, the Supervisor for Health, Hon. Hilary Chukwugirim, the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Mrs. Chioma Onyenwe, as well as other health personnel of the council.
With preparations now in top gear, the forthcoming outreach is expected to deliver critical healthcare services, restore hope to many residents, and reinforce the commitment of the Aba North leadership to improving the wellbeing of its people through st
rategic partnerships.
