Obidient Movement Debunks Leadership Change Rumours, Reaffirms Yunusa Tanko as National Coordinator
The Obidient Movement has firmly dismissed reports alleging that its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, was removed from office by its presidential leader, Peter Obi, describing the claim as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to deceive the public.
The movement said the publication, which was attributed to an individual identified as Francis Nnoli, falsely alleged that Peter Obi had removed Dr. Tanko from office on the directive of an alleged Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement.
Reacting to the report, the movement categorically stated that no such decision was ever taken, stressing that Peter Obi neither removed Dr. Tanko from his position nor authorised anyone to issue any statement on his behalf announcing such a development.
According to a statement signed by Onyeka Dike on behalf of the Media and Communications Directorate Team, the report was entirely fabricated and should be disregarded by members of the public, supporters of the movement, and the media.
The movement explained that all official communications relating to its affairs are issued exclusively through its authorised channels, noting that any significant decision concerning its leadership or structure would be communicated directly by Peter Obi through his verified public platforms.
It expressed concern over what it described as growing attempts by certain individuals to exploit the popularity and credibility of the Obidient Movement by creating unauthorised groups and circulating false political narratives for personal or political gain, particularly as preparations for another election cycle begin to gather momentum.
The statement further alleged that some of those behind the misinformation campaign were individuals who had previously exited the movement but were now attempting to present themselves as legitimate representatives capable of speaking on behalf of its leadership.
Reaffirming its organisational structure, the Obidient Movement maintained that Dr. Yunusa Tanko remains its duly recognised National Coordinator, insisting that there has been no leadership change within the movement.
The group also urged its supporters and the general public to exercise caution by verifying political information through its official communication channels before accepting or sharing such reports, warning that the spread of misinformation is likely to intensify as political activities ahead of future elections continue to unfold.
In addition, the movement called on security agencies to investigate those responsible for disseminating false political information and cautioned against the unauthorised use of the names of Peter Obi, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, or the Obidient Movement in political communications.
The movement reiterated its commitment to its core principles, describing itself as an organised, disciplined, and value-driven movement, while emphasising that no individual or self-created group has the authority to issue directives or make pronouncements on behalf of its leadership without proper authorisation.
