Aba North Mayor, Hon. Timothy Iheke Pledges Support as NCEVECC, Moves to Strengthen Ethics, Environmental Compliance in Communities
The Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, on Tuesday received officials of the National Community Ethics and Values Environmental Compliance Corps (NCEVECC) during a courtesy visit to the council headquarters.
The delegation was led by the Abia State Commandant of the Corps, Cmdr. Peter A. Njoku (Rtd), who outlined the vision and operational plans of the organization in promoting ethical values, civic responsibility, environmental sustainability, and community development across the state.
Welcoming the delegation, Hon. Iheke assured the Corps of the full support and cooperation of the Aba North Local Government administration. He stressed the importance of collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to ensure the success of the Corps’ grassroots programs and community engagement efforts.
During his presentation, Cmdr. Njoku explained that the NCEVECC was recently established under the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation following the launch of the National Values Charter by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the Commandant, the Corps is committed to promoting integrity, accountability, patriotism, obedience to the rule of law, and environmental consciousness among citizens, particularly young people.
He disclosed that the Corps has mapped out several initiatives in Abia State, including public sensitization campaigns on environmental protection and waste management, establishment of Ethics and Values Clubs in schools, and mobilization of volunteers for clean-up exercises, tree planting campaigns, and public health advocacy programs.
Cmdr. Njoku further revealed that the Corps has been directed to recruit 100 officers and personnel in each of the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots ethical and environmental compliance structures.
To enhance the Corps’ operations in Aba North, the Commandant appealed to the local government administration to provide office accommodation within a government facility to serve as the Corps’ operational base in the council area.
Speaking on the nation’s security challenges, he emphasized the need for proactive security strategies and deployment of modern technology to safeguard lives and property. He commended the leadership and reforms of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, noting that the administration has restored public confidence, hope, and order in the state.
He added that the Corps would complement the efforts of security agencies through surveillance and patrol operations while also promoting ethical conduct among citizens to sustain the state’s developmental progress.
The Commandant expressed optimism that collaboration between NCEVECC and the Aba North Local Government would significantly contribute to social development, environmental sustainability, and the building of a value-driven society in Abia State.
Also speaking during the visit, the Chaplain of the Corps, Ambassador Eze Kalu, stated that part of the Corps’ responsibilities includes ensuring that workers do not engage in trading activities around the council headquarters during official working hours at the expense of their primary duties. He noted that the initiative would be implemented in collaboration with relevant government authorities, including the Ministry of Works.
The Executive Chairman was joined during the meeting by the Aba North Council Head of Service and the Head of
Personnel Management.
