Aba North Legislative Council Holds Valedictory Session in Honour of Late Hon. Chief Vitus Ebem
The Aba North Local Government Legislative Council on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, held a solemn valedictory session in honour of the late former Leader of the Council, Hon. Chief Vitus Ebem, popularly known as Omenanwayo, at the Legislative Council Chamber in Eziama.
The emotional session brought together serving and former councillors, political associates, community leaders, family members, and sympathizers who gathered to pay their final respects to the late statesman, remembered for his dedication, courage, and contributions to grassroots governance in Aba North Local Government Area.
Late Hon. Chief Vitus Ebem also served as a Councillor representing St. Eugene Ward 5 under Aba North in 2004, where he distinguished himself through committed service and dedication to the welfare of his constituents.
While officially receiving the remains of the late former Leader, the current Leader of the Aba North Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Prince Sunday Nnamdi, described the deceased as a committed leader whose service and legacy would continue to inspire generations. He urged the children and family members of the late Hon. Vitus Ebem to uphold the good name, values, and legacies their father left behind.
The valedictory session witnessed the presence of many former Leaders and councillors who came to honour one of their own and celebrate his impactful years in public service.
Speaking during the session, Rt. Hon. Prince Sunday Nnamdi also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for releasing funds for the construction of a modern Legislative Council Chamber for Aba North Local Government Area. He noted that the project reflects the Governor’s commitment towards strengthening democratic institutions and improving governance at the grassroots level.
Also speaking on behalf of former councillors, Hon. Tony Agbayim described the late Hon. Vitus Ebem as a good, intelligent, and courageous leader who distinguished himself during his time in office through honesty, wisdom, and selfless service to the people.
Hon. Agbayim further expressed profound gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for the payment of outstanding severance allowances owed to former councillors by previous administrations, describing the gesture as a demonstration of responsive and responsible leadership.
He concluded by encouraging the bereaved family to remain strong and take heart despite the painful loss, while praying for the peaceful repose of the late former Leader whose memory, he said, would continue to live on in the hearts of t
hose he served.
