“Bandits sent me ₦100k as giveaway on TikTok, now they want ₦100m” – Young man cries out
A Nigerian man, identified as Odumayo Olufemi, has taken to social media to raise alarm after what he described as a shocking twist involving a TikTok live session that allegedly began as a money giveaway but later turned into a disturbing demand for ₦100 million.
The incident, which he shared in a video now circulating widely online, has sparked concern among users over the growing risks tied to online “giveaway” trends and digital interactions with unknown accounts.
According to him, the unusual chain of events began on June 6 when he joined a TikTok live session hosted by individuals who promised to send money to viewers who followed their page.
He explained that many participants initially believed it was a harmless engagement or online prank, which encouraged more users to join without suspicion.
“I have come to confess I came across some bandits during a live session yesterday, 6th June. During the live session they promised anyone who follows their page money and I followed the page. We thought it was a joke,” he said.
He further alleged that several other viewers in the same live session also received payments, which initially reinforced the belief that it was a genuine giveaway.
However, the situation reportedly took a troubling turn shortly after the funds were received
The young man claimed that shortly after receiving the ₦100,000, he got an unexpected message demanding an outrageous repayment.
“As soon as I received the money I got an email. Nigerians, please come to my rescue. They are demanding ₦100,000,000 from me,” he said.
He further pleaded for help, insisting that he was not the only one affected and that many others who participated in the live session also benefited from the alleged giveaway.
“Please come to my rescue. I also received money. I was amongst the people who joined the live session. They gave me ₦100,000 and are now demanding ₦100,000,000.”
The incident has since triggered mixed reactions online, with many users expressing concern over the possibility of scams disguised as social media giveaways and the growing sophistication of online criminal networks.
