Abia State Assembly Resumes Plenary, Reviews State Financial Reports, Moves to Fix Isiala Ngwa South Road
The Abia State House of Assembly on Thursday resumed plenary at exactly 1:45 p.m. with an opening prayer led by the member representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency, Hon. Dennis Roland Chinwendu.
At the commencement of the sitting, lawmakers adopted the Votes and Proceedings of their previous plenary held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, before proceeding to consider key legislative matters aimed at strengthening governance, accountability and infrastructure development across the state.
One of the major items before the House was the consideration of the reports of the Committee on Public Accounts, Anti-Corruption and Due Process on the 2022, 2023 and 2024 Reports of the Accountant-General and the Financial Statements of the Government of Abia State. The review forms part of the Assembly’s constitutional oversight responsibility to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
The House also deliberated on House Motion 51, which called on the Abia State Government to rehabilitate the Omoba–Umuekegwu–Amaekpu–Umukoro Road in Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency.
The motion, sponsored by Hon. Dennis Roland Chinwendu (Ceasar), highlighted the deplorable condition of the road and its impact on residents, motorists and economic activities within the area.
While presenting the motion on the floor of the House, the lawmaker urged the state government, through the Ministry of Works, to immediately carry out palliative repairs on the failed sections of the road pending the full implementation of the 2026 budget, in which the reconstruction of the entire road has already been captured.
Following deliberations, the House mandated its Committee on Works to liaise with the relevant authorities and monitor the implementation of the proposed intervention to ensure prompt action.
In another development, the Assembly considered the report of its Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs on a petition challenging the alleged clandestine publication in the Abia State Government Gazette relating to the Amibo Autonomous Community.
The petition, submitted by Solicitor Kalu Uwadineke D. C., was examined by the committee, with the House taking further legislative steps on the matter as part of its commitment to ensuring due process and fairness in chieftaincy and community affairs across the state.
