Davido Fires Back at James Faleke After Heated Exchange Over Osun Governorship Election
Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has hit back at House of Representatives member James Faleke following a public disagreement over the outcome of the Osun State governorship election, which ended with Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, securing re-election.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday morning after an overnight collation of results in Osogbo.
The incumbent governor recorded 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
The post-election controversy intensified after Davido accused Faleke and other APC lawmakers of attempting to influence the electoral process and alter the outcome of the poll.
In a post on X, the singer alleged that Faleke, alongside two other APC legislators, was working to overturn the election result. Davido also maintained that the people of Osun had rejected Oyebamiji and former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, while reiterating his opposition to the APC.
Faleke, who had traveled to Osun State to campaign for and support the APC candidate, rejected Davido’s allegations. The lawmaker argued that he had no authority to manipulate the election or determine its outcome.
He also compared his presence in Osun to Davido’s active involvement in supporting his uncle’s re-election campaign, suggesting that both men were simply backing their preferred candidates.
Davido, however, was unimpressed by Faleke’s response and responded with a sharp jab aimed at the lawmaker’s political career.
“Politics is not a career. Get a Job!” Davido wrote on X.
The exchange has added another layer of drama to an already closely watched Osun election, with the singer remaining one of the most visible celebrities involved in his uncle’s political campaign.
Following the declaration of the results, Davido also congratulated Governor Adeleke on winning a second term in office, celebrating the outcome of a campaign in which he play
ed an active role.
