Gov. Ademole Adeleke Receives Certificate of Return, Set for Second Term as Osun Governor
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally presented Senator Ademola Adeleke with his Certificate of Return, officially confirming his victory in the August 15 Osun State governorship election and paving the way for his second term in office.
Adeleke received the certificate on Wednesday at the INEC headquarters in Osogbo alongside his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, in a ceremony marking the formal conclusion of the electoral process.
The governor was declared winner of the closely contested election on Sunday after securing the highest number of votes across the state. INEC Returning Officer for the election, Joshua Ogunwole, announced that Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 444,815 votes.
Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished in third position with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke recorded victories in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won the remaining 11 LGAs, underscoring the competitive nature of the election.
The presentation of the Certificate of Return represents a significant milestone in Adeleke’s political journey, formally validating his electoral mandate and clearing the way for him and his deputy to serve another four-year term.
Speaking after receiving the certificate, Adeleke expressed appreciation to INEC, security agencies and the people of Osun State for their contributions to the conduct of the election.
He also praised residents for participating in the democratic process and maintaining peace throughout the election, stressing the importance of unity and stability as his administration prepares to begin its second term.
With the certificate now formally presented, attention is expected to shift toward Adeleke’s second-term agenda and the administration’s plans for the next phase of governance in Osun State.
