Nigeria’s Female Beach Volleyball Team Makes History With First-Ever Olympic Beach Volleyball Qualification, Qualifies for 2028 Olympics
Nigeria’s female beach volleyball team has written a remarkable new chapter in the country’s sporting history after securing qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.
The historic feat was achieved on Saturday, August 22, 2026, when Nigeria defeated Morocco 2-0 in the final of the 2026 African Women’s Beach Volleyball Championship in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Nigerian ladies produced a dominant performance in the decisive encounter, winning the first set 21-17 before completely overpowering their Moroccan opponents 21-10 in the second set.
The victory marks the first time in history that Nigeria’s female beach volleyball team will compete at the Olympic Games.
It also brings an end to a painful 16-year wait for Olympic qualification. On three previous occasions, Nigeria had reached the final stage of the African qualifying tournament but narrowly missed out, finishing as runners-up each time.
This time, however, there was no stopping the Nigerian ladies.
After years of near misses and heartbreak, the country’s lady spikers finally broke the jinx on their fourth attempt, proving that persistence, determination and resilience can eventually turn disappointment into history.
With their ticket to Los Angeles 2028 now secured, Nigeria’s female beach volleyball stars have given the nation a major reason to celebrate and opened an exciting new chapter for the sport.
Congratulations to Nigeria’s history-making lady spikers!
