“You Want Me to Fold My Hands for Atiku to Win?” — FCT Minister, Nysome Wike Fires Warning Ahead of 2027 Election
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will not sit back and watch the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the position known while responding to questions during his monthly media parley in Rivers State, where he addressed political developments in the state and explained his increasing presence in the region ahead of the 2027 polls.
The former Rivers State governor dismissed speculation that his frequent visits to the state were an indication that he was planning to relocate from Abuja, describing his trips instead as part of his efforts to remain directly connected with the people and closely monitor political activities on the ground.
According to Wike, he would not be comfortable remaining in Abuja and relying exclusively on reports from political associates who might assure him that everything was proceeding smoothly.
He stressed that the political environment had entered a crucial phase and that he needed to personally assess developments, engage with his supporters and ensure that political preparations were being properly handled.
Wike said, “It’s not about relocating, it’s about coming home to relate with the people and talk to them, and also do those things you know how to do very well, not to take chances.
“So I’m not relocating. I don’t need to relocate, but I also have to be in touch with my people so that I don’t just sit in Abuja and then say that everything is going on there well.
“I don’t want to sit in Abuja and candidates are saying, ‘oh, don’t bother, everything is going on well’. I have to come home and see that all those things are going on. ‘Have you done this? Have you done this? What about this? What about this?
“I can tell you my parents are still very much alive. Of course, this is time for politics.
“You want me to fold my hands for Atiku Abubakar to come and win the election?”
The statement underscores Wike’s determination to remain politically active as the 2027 election approaches, particularly in Rivers State, where his political influence remains significant.
His remarks also come amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential contest, with major political figures and emerging coalitions positioning themselves for what is expected to be a highly competitive election.
