Trump Says US Striking Iranian Targets Near Strait of Hormuz, Warns of “Much Harder” Retaliation
United States President Donald Trump has claimed that American forces are carrying out major strikes against Iranian targets near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions in an already volatile confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
In a strongly worded statement in X (formally Twitter), Trump said the strikes were in retaliation for what he described as Iran’s unsuccessful attempt to deploy sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy and shipping route.
“The United States is, as we speak, striking Iranian Targets near the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes are large and powerful, and in retaliation for the Iranians’ failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait, which currently has no mines (They have been completely removed or detonated!), and the Iranians shooting eight missiles, all successfully knocked down, at our Military Base in Jordan.“
Trump further warned that any Iranian retaliation against the United States would trigger another and potentially more severe round of American military action.
“If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level,” he said.
The US president went on to issue an even more sweeping warning, suggesting that Washington has a significantly larger military operation prepared should the confrontation continue.
“but it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran! President”
Trump’s remarks point to a potentially dramatic expansion of hostilities between the United States and Iran, particularly given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz.
The waterway, located between Iran and Oman, is one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints and a major passage for global oil and gas shipments. Any sustained disruption in the area could have consequences far beyond the Middle East, potentially affecting energy markets, international shipping and economies that depend heavily on Gulf oil supplies.
Trump’s reference to Iranian missile fire at a US military base in Jordan also underscores the widening geographic scope of the confrontation, as Washington and Tehran exchange increasingly serious threats and military actions.
