“Every Nigerian Should Be Able To Go Through Military Training” — Defence Minister, Christopher Musa Says
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has advocated for military training for Nigerians, saying such exposure would help citizens better understand the discipline, endurance and sacrifices associated with service in the armed forces.
Musa made the remarks during an appearance on the Ken Giami podcast, where he spoke about the demanding nature of military service and the personal sacrifices required of personnel who protect the country.
According to the Defence Minister, exposing Nigerians to military training would provide them with practical insight into the realities faced by soldiers, particularly the ability to endure difficult conditions and remain disciplined even when basic comforts are unavailable.
“Every Nigerian should be able to go through military training. It will help you understand what it means to stay hungry; it will show you what endurance means,” he said.
Musa’s comments have drawn attention to the wider question of civic preparedness and the relationship between civilians and the military. His argument centres on the view that firsthand exposure to aspects of military discipline could help Nigerians appreciate the physical and psychological demands placed on members of the armed forces.
The Defence Minister also highlighted endurance as a key component of military life, suggesting that experiencing demanding conditions could give civilians a deeper understanding of the challenges soldiers encounter in the course of their duties.
His remarks come amid continuing national conversations about security, patriotism, civic responsibility and the role citizens can play in supporting national defence.
While Musa spoke in favour of military training for every Nigerian, his comments, as reported from the podcast appearance, did not amount to an announcement of a new compulsory national military training policy.
