Abia’s Power Restoration Drive Gains Momentum as State Govt Targets Abam, Ohafia, Isuikwuato, Nsulu, Ukwa East for Renewed Electricity Supply
The Abia State Government has stepped up efforts to restore and improve electricity supply across several communities in the state, with ongoing interventions targeting Abam in Arochukwu Local Government Area, Ohafia, Ezere and other parts of Isuikwuato.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR.
According to the Commissioner, the State Government is sustaining its intervention in the power sector as part of efforts to address longstanding electricity challenges affecting communities and stimulate economic and social activities across the state.
He explained that the electricity restoration project in Abam had entered its second phase, with four additional communities now covered under the intervention. The project is expected to extend reliable electricity supply to more residents and businesses in the affected areas.
In Ohafia, Prince Kanu said work on the electricity restoration project had reached an advanced stage of completion, raising expectations of improved power supply in the area.
The Commissioner also announced that electricity restoration work covering Nsulu and parts of Ukwa East Local Government Area would commence within the next two weeks.
He described the various interventions as long-awaited projects designed to address persistent power supply challenges and improve the quality of life and economic prospects of residents in the affected communities.
Providing further details on the Abam intervention, the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, identified the four communities benefiting from the second phase of the project as Atani, Ndi Oji, Ndi Mmemme and Ndi Orie.
