A disturbing incident involving a young woman in Aba, Abia State, has sparked concern after a video showing her behaving strangely shortly after being dropped from a vehicle began circulating on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred around St. Joseph Church
, along Azikiwe Road, Aba, where the woman was abandoned by occupants of a vehicle before she was seen displaying unusual behaviour.
According to preliminary accounts surrounding the incident, the woman may have fallen victim to suspected one-chance operators. It was alleged that the individuals picked her up in a vehicle, after which she reportedly became disoriented before being dropped in the area.
Unconfirmed reports further allege that her mobile phone was taken and that funds were subsequently withdrawn from her bank account.
Further information circulating about the incident indicates that the woman had earlier made a hurried visit to her home on a motorcycle before the reported incident. The circumstances surrounding the rushed trip and what happened afterwards remain unclear.
The woman was also reportedly an administrator of a WhatsApp group through which members made financial contributions, commonly referred to as an Ajo arrangement. She was said to be responsible for receiving and managing the contributions made by members of the group.
Reports making the rounds indicate that more than ₦4 million, allegedly belonging to members of the contribution group, was in the account connected to her at the time of the incident.
The disappearance of the funds has consequently heightened concerns among those familiar with the matter, particularly over what happened to the money after the woman’s alleged encounter with the suspected one-chance operators.
However, the circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether the woman was actually drugged, charmed or otherwise incapacitated, remain unverified. There is also no confirmed evidence at this stage establishing exactly who picked her up, how the money was withdrawn, or whether the alleged suspects were responsible for the withdrawals.
The incident has generated considerable reactions online, with many people calling for a thorough investigation to establish what actually happened to the woman, her phone and the substantial funds reportedly entrusted to her.
Authorities have yet to publicly provide a detailed account of the incident. Further clarification from the woman, members of the contribution group, witnesses and law-enforcement authorities is expected to help unravel the circumstances surrounding the disturbing episode.
