NDC Publicity Secretary, Joseph Danjuma Resigns in Nasarawa, Declares Support for Ex-IGP Adamu’s Governorship Ambition
The Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nasarawa State, Joseph Danjuma, has resigned from the party with immediate effect, announcing his decision to support the governorship ambition of former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.
Danjuma’s resignation marks a significant political development in the state as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the next governorship election, with aspirants and their supporters positioning themselves for the contest.
Danjuma communicated his decision in a resignation letter dated Tuesday, October 27, 2026, addressed to the state chairman of the NDC. In the letter, the former party spokesman explained that his decision to leave both his position and membership of the party was prompted by his inability to effectively discharge his responsibilities as the party’s spokesperson in Nasarawa State.
According to him, the lack of sufficient opportunity to perform his duties influenced his decision to step aside from the party’s leadership structure.
Danjuma’s resignation comes alongside his declaration of support for Adamu, who is seeking to become the next governor of Nasarawa State under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Explaining his decision to align with the former police chief, Danjuma indicated that his support was informed by his assessment of Adamu’s leadership qualities and his belief in the former IGP’s capacity to lead the state.
In his resignation letter, Danjuma formally communicated his withdrawal from the NDC and disclosed his intention to join Adamu’s political campaign.
He wrote: “I wish to humbly resign my membership and position as the Publicity Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Nasarawa State Chapter, with immediate effect.
“My decision follows the lack of opportunity to perform my role as the spokesperson of the party in the state.
“With this development, I hereby fully join the campaign train of Ex-IGP Adamu. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.”
His announcement effectively brings his tenure as the NDC’s publicity secretary in Nasarawa State to an end while signalling a new political direction as he throws his weight behind Adamu’s governorship bid.
Adamu, a former Inspector-General of Police, is pursuing the Nasarawa governorship under the SDP, and Danjuma’s declaration adds another supporter to his campaign as political alignments continue to evolve in the state.
Although Danjuma did not provide further details about his planned role in Adamu’s campaign, his statement made clear his intention to participate in the former police chief’s political project.
The development also highlights the fluid nature of political affiliations, as party officials reassess their positions and make decisions about the candidates and platforms they wish to support.
As the political landscape in Nasarawa State continues to take shape, attention will be on how Adamu’s campaign builds support and how the NDC responds to the departure of one of its state-level officials.
