VDM Reveals How Mohbad Justice Campaign Destroyed His Friendship With Davido
Social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has opened up about the circumstances that led to the collapse of his friendship with Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido, revealing that disagreements surrounding the campaign for justice for late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, played a major role in their fallout.
VDM made the revelation in a video shared on Thursday, November 5, 2026, where he recounted how an issue that initially brought him and the award-winning musician together eventually became the reason their relationship deteriorated.
The social media personality explained that he became deeply involved in the campaign demanding justice for Mohbad following the singer’s controversial death in September 2023. The incident sparked nationwide outrage, with fans, entertainers and concerned Nigerians demanding transparency and accountability over the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to VDM, Davido began following him on social media in early 2024, a development that initially excited him because of the singer’s international recognition and celebrity status. Their interaction subsequently developed into a friendship, with VDM occasionally expressing support for Davido by promoting his music, new releases and other activities.
However, the relationship reportedly began to deteriorate following VDM’s arrest in 2024 and the discovery of a WhatsApp group conversation in 2025, which he claimed exposed discussions involving individuals allegedly connected to Davido and other prominent entertainment industry figures.
VDM alleged that conversations in the group suggested that some individuals had made plans to have him arrested because of his persistent demands for answers and justice over Mohbad’s death.
The development reportedly left the outspoken critic questioning the nature of his relationship with Davido, particularly because he believed some individuals within the singer’s circle were working against him over an issue he had consistently championed publicly.
He disclosed that he made several attempts to reach Davido to seek clarification about the alleged involvement of people associated with the musician in efforts targeting him.
However, VDM claimed that Davido did not respond to his calls. He further alleged that a blog associated with individuals within the singer’s circle subsequently portrayed him as someone attempting to record a private conversation with Davido for the purpose of blackmail.
The critic described the experience as a painful betrayal, explaining that he had genuinely regarded Davido as a friend and never expected their relationship to end under such circumstances. His revelation has added another dimension to the growing tension involving some of Nigeria’s biggest entertainment personalities, particularly as his disagreement with rapper Zlatan has also attracted public attention.
Davido was recently drawn into the controversy after a video emerged showing him dancing to Zlatan’s song, INFERNO, during his wedding welcome party in Morocco. The development generated reactions because the song contains lyrics directed at VDM, further fuelling speculation about where the singer stands in the ongoing disagreement between the social media critic and the rapper.
VDM’s account has now reignited conversations about his relationship with Davido, the lingering demand for justice for Mohbad and the influence of personal relationships within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
