The Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, has congratulated Team Aba on their impressive qualification to the final of the Abia Soccer Fest (ASF), describing the achievement as a proud moment for the city widely regarded as the home of football in Abia State.
Hon. Iheke hailed the fighting spirit, discipline and determination displayed by the Aba side, noting that their journey to the final once again underscores Aba’s deep-rooted passion for football and its long-standing reputation as a cradle of soccer excellence.
Team Aba, a combined side made up of players from Aba North and Aba South Local Government Areas, booked their place in the final after a thrilling encounter against Team Umuahia, which comprises Umuahia North and Umuahia South. The fiercely contested match ended in a penalty shootout, with Team Aba holding their nerve to secure a decisive victory.
Reacting to the development, the Aba North Chairman described the triumph as a reflection of the enduring football culture in Aba, a city that has consistently produced outstanding talents for the Nigeria Premier League, the national team, and top clubs across the world. He noted that Aba’s streets, schools and local pitches have for decades served as breeding grounds for some of Nigeria’s finest footballers, making the city synonymous with skill, creativity and resilience in the game.
Hon. Iheke further expressed confidence that Team Aba would approach the final with the same passion and unity that carried them past Umuahia, urging the players to see themselves as worthy ambassadors of Aba’s proud football legacy.
With the stage now set, the Abia Soccer Fest final will see Team Aba face Team Isiala Ngwa, a combined squad from Isiala Ngwa North and Isiala Ngwa South, in what promises to be an exciting showdown of talent, pride and local rivalry.
As anticipation builds ahead of the final, football lovers across Aba and beyond are rallying behind Team Aba, hopeful that the city’s rich football history will once again be celebrated with victory on the pitch.
