Abia Set to Host La Liga Week from November 26 to December 26, 2026
Abia State is set to strengthen its sports development drive and deepen international sporting partnerships as the state prepares to host La Liga Week from November 26 to December 26, 2026.
The month-long programme will feature activities organised in collaboration with La Liga and its Spanish and Basque partners in Nigeria, creating opportunities to promote sports development, international cooperation and engagement with the Spanish football community.
The initiative underscores the Abia State Government’s continued interest in leveraging sports as a platform for youth engagement, talent development and stronger international relationships.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
The planned La Liga Week is expected to further broaden Abia’s sporting outlook by bringing local stakeholders into closer engagement with international football development partners, while creating opportunities to explore new areas of collaboration.
The programme also reflects the state government’s broader commitment to promoting sports as a tool for youth empowerment, social development and the discovery of emerging talents across Ab
ia State.
