Abia State Assembly Receives State Financial Reports, Moves Motion on Key Isiala Ngwa South Road Rehabilitation
The Abia State House of Assembly on Tuesday recorded significant legislative activities as lawmakers received official financial reports from the state’s Accountant General and were formally notified of a motion seeking the rehabilitation of a major road network in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
At the commencement of plenary, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, welcomed students of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic (OOP), Aba, who were present at the Assembly Complex on an educational visit to observe legislative proceedings. Their presence underscored the growing interest among young people in democratic governance and parliamentary processes.
In a key development, the Speaker informed members that the House had officially received the Accountant General’s Report on the Financial Statements of Abia State for the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years. Demonstrating its commitment to transparency, accountability, and due legislative scrutiny, the House subsequently referred the reports to the Committee on Public Accounts, Budget and Due Process for detailed examination and necessary legislative action.
The referral is expected to pave the way for comprehensive oversight of government finances, ensuring that public funds are managed in accordance with established laws and financial regulations.
Meanwhile, the House was also placed on notice of H.A.M 51, a motion urging the Abia State Government to rehabilitate the Omoba–Umuekegwu–Amaekpu–Umukoro Road in Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency.
The motion, sponsored by the member representing Isiala Ngwa South State Constituency, Hon. Rowland Dennis Chinwendu (Caesar), seeks government intervention on the road, which serves as a vital link for residents, commuters, and economic activities within the area.
Speaker Emeruwa directed members to study the motion thoroughly ahead of its formal presentation and debate on a future legislative day, setting the stage for further deliberations on the infrastructural needs of the constituency.
The day’s proceedings reflected the Assembly’s continued focus on fiscal oversight, infrastructure development, and public engagement as it advances its legislative responsibilities in service of the people of Abia State.
