Abia State Govt Appoints Daniel Eke as New Enyimba FC Sporting Director to Restore Club’s Glory
The Abia State Government has taken a decisive step towards reviving the fortunes of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba, with the approval of the appointment of Mr. Daniel Eke as the club’s new Sporting Director.
Enyimba FC, Nigeria’s most decorated football club and one of Abia State’s most prominent brands on the African football scene, has in recent times experienced a noticeable decline in form and competitiveness. Currently placed 12th on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) 2025/2026 table, the club’s performance has fallen short of the high standards historically associated with the People’s Elephant.
Concerned by this development, the Abia State Government said the appointment forms part of broader reforms aimed at restoring Enyimba FC to its former glory, strengthening its administrative and technical structures, and repositioning the club as a professionally run and financially sustainable institution.
The approval for Mr. Eke’s appointment was granted by the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, following the resignation of the former Sporting Director, Mr. Ifeanyi Ekwueme.
Mr. Daniel Eke, a product of Enyimba FC’s feeder team, brings to the position a wealth of experience in football management, scouting, and player development. Over the years, he has served in several key roles across Nigerian football, including Scouting Director of Enyimba FC, Manager of Enyimba FC NPL team, Football Agent to Enyimba FC, Special Consultant to the Commissioner for Sports at Rivers United, Manager of Rivers United NPL team, Manager of Abia Warriors NPL team, and Football Scout with Rangers International FC, Enugu.
His professional excellence has earned him notable recognitions, such as Most Successful Football Agent in Africa (2020), Most Successful Football Agent in Nigeria (2020), and Highest Goal Scorer Manager (Chijioke Akenato, 2020).
Industry watchers describe Mr. Eke as a strong force in strategic career planning, credited with helping players move from lower leagues to top-flight football, building a robust pool of professional and international players, and successfully transitioning academy talents into professional contracts.
The Abia State Government expressed confidence that Mr. Eke’s experience, technical competence, and extensive network will significantly contribute to repositioning Enyimba FC as a competitive force in Nigerian and African football.
The government also clarified that Mr. Uche Okechukwu remains a duly appointed and sworn-in member of the Enyimba FC Board, while Mr. Daniel Eke now assumes responsibility as the club’s Sporting Director.
With this latest development, stakeholders believe Enyimba FC is set on a new path toward reclaiming its status as a global football brand and a source of pride to Abia Sta
te and Nigeria.
